Ordinary tennis-ball felt is made for court friction, not dog mouths — once it picks up dirt and grit it behaves like fine sandpaper against teeth with repeated chewing, and it's hard to keep clean. The Footy skips the felt altogether.

A quick way to check any chew toy
Chew-toy guides commonly recommend the thumbnail test: press your thumbnail firmly into the surface. If it doesn't leave the slightest indent, it's likely too hard for daily chewing. Why The Oodle Club Exists

The Oodle Club began with a familiar problem: a toy box full of things our Groodles either destroyed, ignored or simply stopped caring about.
